Our smart soft exoskeleton addresses discomfort, safety, and affordability challenges of assistive devices. It is adaptive to human and interactive with the environment. It is ultra-lightweight and does not restrict natural movement. Our actuators have five times higher torque density than conventional ones. Soft electromyography sensors detect spasticity and fatigue levels and vary the assistance by maximizing the use of the residual function. The exoskeleton supports independent living through computer vision-based environment awareness that is intuitive, reduces cognitive loads, ensures safety during ambulation. The versatility and affordability of this device demonstrate its viability for medical, industrial and consumer markets.
